About Us

Boston Skyline Chorus is an award-winning treble barbershop a cappella group, performing in local communities throughout the greater Boston area. We celebrate diversity and welcome women and non-binary treble voices.

Our love for our craft is obvious and infectious, and our rehearsals are wonderful opportunities to develop and improve our vocal skills as we build warm, supportive friendships. We rehearse every Tuesday night and would love to have you come and join us!

Our Mission Statement

  • To share the goal of self-growth through music education, personal vocal skill development, fine-tuned listening skills, and increased awareness of harmony balance.
  • To develop self-confidence and become skilled and self-driven performers.
  • To connect with each other through learning, performance, unity, and collaboration.

We Are Education-Focused

A great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. Several times a year, we are coached from a visiting Master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade. We have access to several educational opportunities including weekend workshops, which provide great opportunities to learn more about specific aspects of barbershop singing and vocal production, and provide an excellent chance to spend time with other members learning and socializing together.

We Are Performance-Focused

The main purpose of Boston Skyline Chorus is to bring our music to the community. We sing at annual shows, a number of community events, and at an annual competition.

We Are Competition-Focused

In the spring of each year, Boston Skyline Chorus participates in the SingUnited Region 1 Chorus Competition in Springfield, MA. Competition is a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together and perform. Each competitor receives constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories compete in the SingUnited International Competition, which is held in the fall each year.

    A Chapter of SingUnited

The Boston Skyline Chorus is a chapter of SingUnited (formerly Sweet Adelines International), a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The SingUnited headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.

    Our 65 Year History

Our 65 year history: We are part of Region 1 of SingUnited (formerly known as Sweet Adelines International). Middlesex Chorus was chartered in November of 1960. In 1972, we were re-named Liberty Belle Chorus when Barbara Braxten became the Director. In 1982, we took 2nd place in the Regional Competition, and clinched 1st place in 1983. We then attended the 1984 International Competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, placing 20th overall. In 1987, we again won the Regionals, and placed 23rd in the International Competition. We continued to place in the top five through 2013, with four 2nd place wins, seven 3rd place finishes, and nine 4th place. We took home 1st place in Division AA mid-sized choruses in 2005, and 2nd place Mid-Size Chorus in Division AA in both 2010 and 2011. In 2015, we changed our name to the Boston Skyline Chorus and hired our current Director, Wendy Pachter. In 2018, we received the Most Improved Chorus Award, and in 2019, one of our quartets, Bari'd Treasure, received the Most Improved Quartet Award. Our most recent win was a back-to-back 3rd place awards in Small Chorus Division A, with a 21 point improvement over the prior year. Be sure to check out our historical  photos!
